Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! (Psalm 46:10, ESV).
Several weeks ago I was dressing Mercy. More accurately, I was trying to dress Mercy. She was struggling with a sweater & becoming frustrated. I was getting frustrated with her. It was an all around frustrating experience. I finally said something like, “Mercy, stop struggling! I know this isn’t comfortable, but if you’ll relax everything will go smoothly.”
We are all like Mercy sometimes. Struggling to get things done. Struggling to make our kids listen. Struggling to get along with our spouse. Struggling to make life work. Struggling...
God calls on us to stop...Take a breath...Be still...and know.
Know that He is God. We don’t have to be in control all the time. We don’t have to get our way all the time. We don’t have to make sure everything goes according to plan.
Because our plan ultimately doesn’t matter. God is in control. His plan – His will – will be done. Stopping and resting gets easier when we realize it’s not about us.
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
We’re here to exalt the Name of the Lord Jesus. Our plans – and our struggles – become easier to deal with when we have this right perspective.
